Frequently asked questions.

What are wood flowers?

Wood flowers are beautiful, handmade flowers created from thin layers of the stem of the balsa plant. They are light, soft and pliable. Because these flowers are made from wood, they are able to be dyed in an infinite array of colors, and are hypoallergenic. All dyed flowers are hand dyed by me. The flowers are made from a natural material, and as such, may have some minor differences in color. You may even see small spots of bark left on the flower from the peeling process, since that process is done by hand.

Do the flowers come in white?

Because of the material the flowers are made from, the flowers are naturally an ivory to cream color. I can always dye the flowers a pure white, but their natural color is truly beautiful.

How do I take care of the flowers?

Wood flowers should be handled with care. I treat most of the flowers with a special process that leaves them soft and pliable, but they can still be damaged if dropped or handled roughly. They should be kept in an area where they get good air circulation, are not in direct sunlight (unless you have requested for them to be treated with a UV protectant), away from moisture, and of course, away from open flames (they are wood!!!). If traveling with your flowers, do not check them with your luggage. Be sure they are carried in packaging that will keep them from being crushed or jostled around too much. Show them off as you travel! People will be amazed at how beautiful and delicate they are.

What kinds of fillers do you use in your bouquets and arrangements?

The fillers and greenery I use will last as long as your wood flowers. I use a mix of natural dried/preserved fillers and greenery and faux fillers and greenery, depending on the budget, theme, and overall look desired for the floral products.

How far in advance should I order my flowers?

I recommend you allow 6 - 8 weeks to ensure your flowers have plenty of time to be dyed, arranged, and delivered to you at least 2 weeks prior to your wedding day. Rush orders (less than 2 weeks prior to the wedding) may be accommodated depending on my availability. Rush orders will incur a $75 charge.

Why should I choose wood flowers over real or silk flowers?

Lots of reasons!! The ability to pick exactly the color you want is one of the primary benefits of wood flowers. With real or silk flowers, you’re limited to the colors that exist in nature, or the colors a manufacturer has decided on. With wood flowers, if you send me a color swatch, I can match it exactly … even if you want a bright fuschia, deep teal, and a burnt orange bouquet (which would look amazing, by the way!)

Wood flowers are also eco-friendly. The plants used to create the flowers are considered weeds in the tropical countries where they grow. They are cut down by farmers because they infest the fields where they try to grow other crops. Rather than waste these plants, skilled workers turn them into these beautiful flowers entirely by hand.

Wood flowers are hypoallergenic. Many people are allergic to real flowers which could turn your wedding or prom into a real sneeze-fest! No worries with wood flowers. Now your special day will only accompanied by sniffles of joy, not allergies.

These flowers are also perfect for sending to a loved one in the hospital because they won’t add any unwanted smells or allergens in rooms for patients.

Wood flowers cut down on wedding day stress. You can order your wedding flowers months before your wedding and receive them weeks before your wedding date. You don’t have to order a second bouquet for your bridal photos because the same bouquet can be used for those AND your wedding. No more last-minute floral deliveries because your gorgeous wedding day flowers don’t need water and won’t wilt or die. Your photographer will love them too because they look just as fresh when they start taking photos as they do when the photos are finished!

Wood flowers make great keepsakes. Whether you’re using them for a prom corsage or a wedding bouquet, these flowers will keep your memories fresh for years to come.
